Capturing the Adventure of 10,000 Scouts & Guides

At the beginning of August 2016 I joined 8 other fantastic people to form the Photography Team at the 2016 Essex International Scout & Guide Jamboree, held every 4 years in a field just outside Chelmsford.

img_2414Over the 10 days, the team’s goal was to capture the fun and excitement of the 10,000 Scouts and Guides on site and ensure the rest of the Communications team (social media, newsletter, public relations teams etc) had suitable, on-brand images during the event.

While not being my first Jamboree as staff (that accolade falls to the Australian Jamboree in 2010), it was my first as a Photographer and it was a brilliant experience from start to finish. The biggest challenge was definitely keeping on top of editing as you go, and making sure the photos are available to the newsletter team on time. It was a very busy week and involved a lot of walking to cover the mile by half mile site which reflected in my Fitbit stats (over 190,000 steps/87 miles!).

Staffing a Jamboree is definitely something I would recommend to anyone. Can’t wait until EIJ 2020!
